I offer both in-person visits and telehealth for California residents. Services include Psychotherapy, Walk & Talk therapy, Joy of Medicine Resiliency Consultations for Physicians, Clinical & Medical Hypnosis, and Sleep/Insomnia Consultations. We can discuss the what modality is ideal for your needs. My office is wheelchair accessible and also has plenty of free parking. Walk & Talk therapy is available to us on the beautiful American River Parkway, but we can always come inside if we need to do different work or have bad weather. I use a HIPAA compliant video platform for telehealth.
In addition to the 1:1 individual services above, I am also happy to provide executive consultation, workshops, groups, or speaking engagements about a variety of topics.
Rates/Fees: Appointment fees vary according to length and type of service. Some standard fees are as follows:
Initial assessment--standard length (55 minutes) $250
Initial assessment--extended length (85 minutes) $375. Required for Insomnia/Sleep intakes. Recommended for Hypnosis/Hypnotherapy, Chronic Pain, or other concerns that would benefit from extended time.
Psychotherapy or Hypnotherapy (50-55 minutes) $225
Consultation: (50-55 minutes) $225
Fees for other services are outlined in practice policies.
Payments: I utilize a HIPAA compliant option for payments with credit cards, including most health savings or flex accounts. Fees are due at the time of service.
Insurance: I am not contracted with any insurance company as an in-network provider. However, if you have a PPO insurance plan that offers you out of network benefits, I'm happy to give you a special receipt (with your diagnosis and visit information) that you can submit to your insurance company to seek reimbursement. Keep in mind there is no guarantee of reimbursement and that your insurance company may request further information about your treatment in order to process your claims.
Medicare: I am "opted out" of Medicare. If you are (or become) eligible for Medicare, this means that neither one of us would bill/seek reimbursement from Medicare for my services. As part of the opt out process, we must complete a private contract to work together.
Reduced fee options: I offer a limited number of reduced fee slots in my schedule as part of my commitment to the value of psychotherapy for all. One way I do this is belonging to the non-profit Open Path Psychotherapy Collective which is a nationwide network of professionals committed to providing mental health care at deeply reduced rates for individuals with significant financial need. My availability is listed on their site. Additionally, I'm happy to provide referrals to agencies that offer reduced or sliding fee scales. One such Sacramento option is the CNU Community Counseling & Psychological Services center.
I require a minimum of 48 hours for cancellations or rescheduling your appointment. Unlike medical offices that see multiple patients per hour, I hold your session exclusively for you and cannot fill your session at the last minute. You are responsible to pay the full fee with less than 48 hour notice or in the event of a no-show. To cancel or reschedule an appointment, you can use the client portal.
Clinical Health Psychology is an area of specialization that focuses on health, wellness, and behavioral medicine. Part of my training was in medical settings with individuals with health or medical problems. As a specialist in clinical health psychology, I help individuals cope with chronic illness or injury, manage pain, lessen the impact of stress, improve sleep, address eating and weight concerns, or make health and lifestyle changes. I am fascinated by the interplay of mind and body, and use a variety of modalities and tools in my clinical work.
The letters designate the individual's type and level of training. (Also, some people list certifications which can be confusing to understand.) In my case, I earned a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology, which is a doctoral degree, after I completed my bachelor's and master's degrees in psychology. Having a Ph.D. allows me to be called "Dr. Lori Roberto." In fact, in order to be a licensed psychologist you must have a doctoral degree along with years of experience and passing licensure protocols.
Psychiatrists are also "Dr.'s", however they completed medical school and then a residency in the medical field of psychiatry. They are experts at medication management for psychiatric disorders and they sometimes provide psychotherapy, as well. (Note: I do not prescribe medication.) Other mental health providers complete master's degrees and then become licensed to provide services in their respective field, such as LMFT (Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist) or LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker) or LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor).
When seeking mental health treatment, it is essential that you check the license status of your provider to make sure you are working with someone with adequate training and oversight. Some people call themselves "counselors" or "hypnotherapists" or "coaches" but are not licensed or regulated. You may verify a license via the California Department of Consumer Affairs.
