Welcome! Learn more about working with Psychologist Lori Roberto, Ph.D.

You Matter Here.

Psychotherapy and Consultation

I offer both short and long-term psychotherapy and consultation for adults in my Sacramento office. HIPAA compliant and secure video sessions, or phone sessions, are available when clinically appropriate for clients who are California residents.

Health and Wellness

As a specialist in clinical health psychology, I can help with chronic illness, pain, insomnia and body, eating or weight concerns.   I will help you explore better adjustment and wellness to live a healthier and happier life.

Walk and Talk

Interested in counseling while walking in nature?  You get the combined benefit of therapy and movement.  We can walk on quiet paved or unpaved paths along the beautiful American River Parkway next to my office.

Common Questions

Do you offer a free consultation?

Yes, I offer a free phone consultation! I believe the therapist-client fit is of utmost importance and a phone consultation will allow us a chance to discuss whether we are a good match for working together.  I'll be happy to answer any questions you may have and will ask you questions too regarding your reasons for seeking help and what your hopes are regarding treatment.  It is important that we both feel confident that working together is a good idea. I'll be happy to provide some referral ideas if I think you might be better served by another clinician or treatment center.

How do I know what options are right for me?

I'm pleased to be able to provide a variety of options for treatment including standard in-office psychotherapy, Walk & Talk therapy outside of the office, as well as telehealth options for California residents.  The beauty of this situation is that it allows you a great deal of flexibility. There are pros and cons to each modality and we can discuss the benefits and limitations of each, based on your unique situation.  My office is wheelchair accessible and has plenty of free parking.  Walk & Talk therapy is available to us on the beautiful American River Parkway, but we can always come inside if we need to do different work or have bad weather.  I use HIPAA compliant video sessions for telehealth when needed,

What about Fees, Insurance, & Payments?

Your physical and mental health are invaluable and I strongly believe that psychotherapy is a positive investment in your overall well being. My fees are $170 for the initial assessment (60 minutes) and $160 for individual psychotherapy sessions (50 minutes). Fees for other services vary. Preferred payment is cash or check, accepted at the beginning of each session.  I can also accept payment via credit cards, including most health saving account or flex accounts.

I am not in-network for any insurance companies, which was a conscious decision for a variety of reasons and allows for greater privacy to you. However, if you have a PPO insurance plan that has out of network benefits, I will be happy to give you a receipt with necessary information to allow you to seek reimbursement from your insurance company. In this situation, I must note a diagnosis which would become part of your permanent medical record and your insurance company may seek further information from me about your treatment in order to process your claims. There is no guarantee that out of network claims will be reimbursed by your PPO insurance company.

Do you offer reduced fees?

I believe that psychotherapy and mental health treatment are essential to the health and happiness of individuals.  Because of my commitment to this ideal, I have chosen to become a provider for the non-profit  Open Path Psychotherapy Collective.  This organization is a nationwide network of professionals committed to providing mental health care at deeply reduced rates for individuals with significant financial need.  Their mission is to  provide access to affordable care while supporting therapists in private practice providing this care.  Please follow the link above to see if I have any current openings through Open Path or to find another provider with openings.

I work with existing clients on a case by case basis to continue service or provide referrals in the event of a major change in financial status or crisis.  There are a number of organizations in the Sacramento region that provide low or reduced cost services for individuals and families.

What is your cancellation policy?

I require a minimum of 24 hours for cancellations or rescheduling your appointment. Unlike medical offices that see multiple patients per hour, I hold your session exclusively for you and cannot fill your session at the last minute.  You are responsible to pay the full fee with less than 24 hour notice or in the event of a no-show.
